In June I spent ten days on an autonomous sailing boat called the ‘Vaka’. We were six designers from different universities, the marine biologist Nick, the engineer Sebas and our Captain Alice crossing over the open ocean from Cavalaire-sur-Mer to Corsica and back. On the way, we presented some of our projects in front of the group and discussed sustainability in design education. During an ideation session, we came up with ideas to raise awareness for underwater life in the Mediterranean. While sailing we had breathtaking encounters with marine life such as fin whales, dolphins, and two blue-fin tunas that followed the Vaka for quite a while. In the following, I want to give you an insight into our amazing adventure.
