Corals for Conservation

Working as a volunteer for the Marine Conservation NGO "Corals for Conservation“ I developed workshop materials for community restoration workshops in the Pacific. Further, I refined their logo and made content for their outreach program and tourist education in my free time.

Educational Materials

All the components including illustrations, pictures and templates are open access and can be used and adjusted by the local marine biologists for future coral restoration workshops.

Outreach

Plantation Island Resort on Malolo Lailai in Fiji has an outreach program connected to the coral restoration work of Corals for Conservation. I designed educational posters for this program that help tourists understand the challenges the reefs are facing.

Implementation

Dr. Austin Bowden-Kerby uses the slide deck I developed in coral restoration workshops for pacific island communities. With the theoretical support and practical lessons they are now able to implement their own coral restoration projects back in their home countries.

Working with marine biologists in the field and learning from them was a truly rewarding experience. The input I received was gathered in this presentation deck which can be used for coral restoration workshops worldwide. The Reefs of Hope initiative that implements those techniques was launched in 2023 by Dr. Austin Bowden-Kerby. Communities are regularly trained to protect and restore their local reefs with this slide deck which is expandable and grows as more knowledge is becoming available.
